The event is free and open to the public. The celebration begins with a welcome ceremony at Klyde Warren Park. Then, the event continues with a parade through the city’s Art District. A chariot pulling the deities will travel down Flora Street, and hundreds of devotees will surround the giant chariot pulling Lord Krishna, also known as Jagannatha, the ‘Lord of the Universe.’
The festival also includes the 42nd annual festival Ball, which will feature a silent auction, seated dinner, and after-party. The event benefits City of Hope and raises funds to support its life-saving treatment and research programs. Tickets are available for this event, but space is limited. Members of MKAF will receive a special discounted rate to attend the event.
Besides performing arts and crafts, the Calgary Stampede has other events that make it an ideal place for outdoor enthusiasts. A televised version of the event is broadcast on the Nine Network and is aimed at families, with a new theme each year. The event attracts over a million visitors each year.
